Environmental stewardship at Lake Powell

Commitment to the environment is one of ARAMARK’s core values. And we express our care through Green Thread - the official environmental “greening” program that influences everything we do here at Lake Powell.

One program of note is our Trash Tracker program where volunteers, including Junior Trash Trackers, pick up litter on and around the lake.

Another program is the ongoing effort of our Lake Powell chef and his culinary staff to develop Sustainable Cuisine entrees that celebrate the pleasures of food and the diversity of cultures, while recognizing the impact of food on our health and our environment.

About 10 Million pounds recycled at Lake Powell since 1983!

782,485 lbs. of solid waste diverted and recycled in 2007!

Aluminum

• Recycling one aluminum can saves enough electricity to power a TV or a 100 watt light bulb for three hours.
• In 2007 Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas recycled 3,888 lbs. aluminum.

• Power 679,209 TV’s for an hour.
• Power 56,601 100 watt light bulbs for twelve hours.

• Recycling one ton of cardboard saves 24,000 gallons of water.
• In 2007 Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas recycled 370,807 lbs. of cardboard.
• This effort saved 9,072,000 gallons of water or enough water to supply 85 average households for an entire year.

• Recycling 1 glass bottle saves enough electricity to power one-100 watt light bulb for 4 hours.
• In 2007, Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas recycled 43,240 lbs. of glass.
• That’s enough electricity saved to power 185,006 light bulbs for 1 hour.

• Recycling one ton of paper saves 17 trees.
• In 2007 Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas recycled 19,421 of paper.
• This effort saved 357 trees or enough 2 X 4’s to stretch end to end for almost 10 miles.

All paper products used must meet Green Seal GS33 Lodging standards requirements for post consumer recycle content.

Java City Shade Tree Coffee - Highland coffee farming provides a natural habitat and protected ecosystem for over 150 migratory birds.
