What is the pet policy for houseboats ?

Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas does not allow pets on the 75’ Odyssey, 75’ Excursion, 62’ Journey or the 54’ Escape houseboat. On all other boats, there is a $10 per day per pet fee.

What is the smoking policy on houseboats ?

Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas houseboats feature smoke free interiors. Ashtrays are provided for those guests who wish to smoke outside the cabin. Guests are encouraged to use the ashtrays rather than dispose of debris in the lake or on the shore.

Do I need firewood?

Make the most of your Lake Powell Evenings by sitting around a campfire with your family & friends. Call 928-645-1078 to order your firewood and it will be delivered to your boat before your arrival.

How much ice will I need?

Let the experienced staff at Lake Powell houseboat rentals help you decide how much ice you’ll need for your time on the lake. Even better, we’ll deliver it to your boat before your arrival. Call 928-645-1078 to speak with a Lake Powell houseboat expert.

Where can I get fuel on the lake?

Fuel is available at Wahweap Marina, located close to mile marker 2, Dangling Rope close to mile marker 42-43, Bullfrog Marina, located close to mile marker 94 and Halls Crossing Marina close to mile marker 93.  Other services include pump out, ice, boat repair shop and retail store.

Can I travel with more than 12 people on the houseboat?

Coast Guard regulations mandate a maximum of 12 people on the houseboat anytime you are moving on the water. When you are beached and anchored you can have more than 12 on the boat.

Who captains the boat?

You can captain the boat yourself, or hire a Coast Guard certified captain from marina services.

How's the fishing on the lake and where can you get fishing licenses?

Lake Powell has excellent fishing for Striped Bass, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, and Channel Catfish.  You can go on line to the Utah Fish and Game Department to purchase a fishing license before you get here.  If you are fishing near the dam, you will have to get an Arizona stamp.  You may also purchase fishing licenses at our marina store, boat rental office, and Wal-Mart in Page, AZ.

Where do I shop for food?

At Wahweap Marina, located close to Page, AZ, we offer 3 types of service. (1) Meals on Board - Market Menu: A grocery shopping service provided by Captains and Crews (grocery delivery service). (2) Meals on Board - Galley Gourmet: Chef-prepared meals that are ready to finish.  No preparation, limited cooking required. (3) Meals on Board - Chef on Board: Your own personal chef prepares meals either on your houseboat or on a chef boat. Other options are Safeway and Super Wal-Mart, located in Page, AZ.

At Bullfrog Marina, located at Bullfrog, UT (north lake), there is a convenience store with limited groceries available.  Plan to bring all your food and beverages with you.

How much knowledge do you have to have to drive a houseboat?

Anyone can drive a houseboat who is 18 years of age and older with a valid drivers license. We give a thorough instruction so that you can feel comfortable driving the boat.  We have complimentary captain services in and out of the marina.  Once you are out of the marina area, you take over.

Why should I choose Wahweap over Bullfrog?

This decision is typically location driven.  Wahweap is the closest marina if you are coming from  California, Arizona, Nevada, or Southern Utah. Bullfrog is the closest marina if you are coming from Colorado, New Mexico, or Northern Utah. Not all boats are available at both marinas, so the decision could also be made based on the type of houseboat you want to rent.

Do you have to move your houseboat everyday?

Many houseboaters beach their houseboat in an area that appeals to them using it as their base camp. They use their small boats or personal watercraft for water activities and exploring the lake.

How do I know where I am on lake?

There are numbered red and green buoys every mile that you can follow with the map provided with your rental houseboat. A pair of binoculars makes seeing the buoys easier.

Can you fly to Lake Powell?

Scheduled service to Page, AZ and Wahweap Marina is available from Phoenix and Denver via Great Lakes Airlines.  There are private landing strips at Page, Bullfrog, and Halls Crossing.

Can I camp anywhere on the lake?

Yes, there are many secluded beaches that are sandy and perfect for a houseboat. The only place where camping is prohibited is the Rainbow Bridge National Monument.

What is provided with the houseboat?

Our houseboats are equipped with your comfort in mind, and include fully equipped kitchens, stocked with service for 12, bed linens and towels, BBQ's deck chairs, water slides.  A complete inventory list is available for each houseboat type on that houseboat's detail page.

What do I need to bring?

For your convenience, we have provided you with a list of suggested travel items. Be sure to check it out before traveling to Lake Powell.

Do I need a power boat?

Yes, we highly recommend that you either rent or bring a power boat or personal watercraft.  Consider your houseboat your base camp and use your small craft for water adventure activities and exploring.  Smaller watercraft allows you to explore deeper into canyons and see much more of the lake in a shorter period of time while using about the same amount of gas.

Please note: If you are bringing a boat that has been in another body of water, you must check in with the NPS Mussel Inspectors at the top of main launch ramp so they can inspect and possibly decontaminate your boat prior to it being placed into Lake Powell. This free service is necessary in order for us to keep Lake Powell beautiful and pristine.

Can I tow small boats?

Yes, you can tow power boats and small boats easily behind your houseboat.

How much fuel will I use?

The amount of fuel you use depends on the type of houseboat you rent, how far you go, and what kind of small craft you have.

Are there extra fees?

Yes. Extra fees include a 3% Utility Pass Through Charge, a 4.5% Construction Set Aside Fee, and State Taxes.  There is an optional (but highly recommended) Waiver of Liability Insurance charge of between $10 - $30 per day, depending on what you rent.  There are fees for water toys, such as skis or wakeboard packages, tubes or kayaks.  If you bring your pet, there is a $10 per pet per day charge.  Please note: We do not allow pets on the luxury class houseboats.

What happens if there is mechanical trouble while out on the lake?

There are three options for requesting assistance from one of our marinas:

  1. Each boat is equipped with a Marine Radio - please use it.
  2. There is generally cell phone reception if you are in a main channel - feel free to call.
  3. There is a Request for Assistance card onboard your houseboat that can be filled out and given to boaters passing by in the event that marine radio or cell phone communication is not available.

When can we pick-up our houseboat?

Each houseboat type has an assigned block of time for pick-up and return.  Adhering to this schedule allows us to properly prepare your houseboat and to give you instruction.  We appreciate your cooperation in helping us stick with this schedule.

Can I arrange for a pre-board of my houseboat?

Yes, on a space available basis.  You must book your pre-board request with the marina directly.  The cost is $300 for 46' Expedition, 46' Voyager and 53' Adventurer houseboats, $350 for 48' Navigator and 59' Discovery XL houseboats and $400 for the 62' Journey and 54' Escape houseboats.  We do not offer pre-board requests for the 75' Excursions or 75' Odyssey houseboats.
