Our Efforts
Efficient Operations
- Controlling our energy usage.
- Utilizing occupancy sensors to control power use in office areas.
- All areas have LED lighting
- Offering some houseboats with solar power options.
Water Conservation
- Transitioned 70% of landscaping to xeriscape, which reduced water use by 38 million gallons in just one year.
- Enhancing watershed protections in our marina management processes to ensure that water is not contaminated in our fuel operations.
- Installed low flow shower heads.
- Offering an ‘opt-out' linen conservation program.
Minimizing Waste
- Waste is minimized throughout our operations
- The Lake Powell Trash Tracker program enables volunteers with the opportunity to clean up the 1,960 miles of Lake Powell's shoreline. We provide program volunteers with five or seven days aboard a staffed and stocked houseboat. The National Park Service coordinates the volunteers for each trip. Programs average 50,000 lbs. of trash picked up off the shores of Lake Powell each year.
Transportation and Fuel
- Working with suppliers to provide delivery optimization wherever possible in order to minimize the number of deliveries and trucks on the road.
- Backhauling recyclables - instead of sending empty trucks back to our suppliers, they are filled with recyclable items that are dropped off at recycling centers.
- Using electric powered carts for housekeeping operations.
